The Promise and Power of the Name Immanuel

The prophet Isaiah speaks about a child being born who would be named Immanuel, meaning “God with us”. That was to be a promise to the people of Judah, that God had not forgotten them and that he would always be with them. Matthew applies that name to Jesus in the Christmas story. No matter what happens in life God promises to always be with his people. “Getting Ready for Jesus” is part of our “Christmas in the Old Testament” series.
